Read Psalm 51 : A Prayer of Repentance

Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow. 8 Make me hear joy and gladness, That the bones You have broken may rejoice. 9 Hide Your face from my sins, And blot out all my iniquities.
10 Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me. 11 Do not cast me away from Your presence, And do not take Your Holy Spirit from me.
12 Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, And uphold me by Your generous Spirit. 13 Then I will teach transgressors Your ways, And sinners shall be converted to You (Psalm 51:7-13).
I love Psalm 51, David recognizes his need of forgiveness and repentance. This psalm identifies it as David’s prayer for forgiveness after Nathan had confronted him regarding his adultery with Bathsheba (see 2 Sam. 11; 12; Ps. 6:2–10.
We have all fallen short of the glory of God, we are all sinners in need of His saving grace. I love praying this Psalm for myself, as well for my children. Our children need our prayers, encouragement, grace, and forgiveness. In our family, grace and forgiveness are the pillars of our relationships, for we too make mistakes and I know I’m in need of my children’s grace and forgiveness.
Let’s Pray,
Lord Father God, Mighty God! I cry out to you for the life of my son. Please, O LORD, make Him Your mighty warrior, strengthen him in his inner man. Purge him with hyssop, and he shall be clean; Wash him, and he shall be whiter than snow. Fill his heart with the truth of the scriptures, speak Your truth to the depths of his heart. Restore to him the joy of his salvation. Please give him the strength to stand firm in his convictions and faith. Make him a mighty man of faith, a God-fearing, spirit-filled, spirit-led, born-again, “disciple of Christ, please Lord make him a man after Your own heart. Help my son to walk in purity; remind him, Lord, to guard his heart with due diligence. Please put a hedge of protection around him, a wall of fire, and keep him far away from the wayward adulterous woman. Protect him from every attack of the enemy. Make him a mighty arrow against the kingdom of darkness; let him be a scourge to Satan. Please teach me how to pray for him, and thank you, Lord, that you intercede on his behalf. Help my son not to grow weary, help him, Lord, to live with honor, to love You, to do his duty, to love his country, and to love people. Thank You, Lord, for Your faithfulness and that I can bring all my worries and all my desires to You and help me to surrender all, leaving all at Your altar. In Jesus’ Holy Mighty Name. Amen.
